Two cabins erected in the 1940s are making way for a new, 7,000-square-foot bunkhouse/education center. When designing a project in response to a client's needs, always interview the client and the end users, if possible. Some projects can be handled with surveys, but a camp project presents a unique opportunity to fully immerse yourself in the experience, so I try to arrange an overnight bunk. As an architect, I know the best way to design for the clients is to walk in their shoes. Students will get out of the classroom and visit showrooms, retail stores, design houses and businesses that are shaping the design industry.
